JITS for LIFE Philosophy

Throughout his years of training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Coach Don noticed many men, women, and even kids would start training with high enthusiasm and hopes to improve their fitness. The believed they would  learn Jiu Jitsu and self defense.  And most quit before getting their first belt or reaching their goals.  What a bummer!

Why do they quit? Jiu Jitsu is tough!

For many people who are not very athletic, or over the age of 40 or so, the typical Jiu Jitsu warmups, drills, and sparing strain their physical capabilities.  In short the intensity of the exercise exceeded their abilities and even desires.

Meet Coach Don

Coach Don Saunders, Ph.D., CPT, BJJ Black Belt and USCG veteran is passionate about helping people of all ages become more mobile and self confident. 

Don earned a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, medaled in various IBJJF World, Pan Am, national and local tournaments. 

What sets him apart from other Jiu Jitsu coaches is his concern for less athletic children and adults; especially aging adults that led him to become an ACE certified personal trainer.

His combination of training and experience benefits students because they can rest assured that  Don is training them with a keen awareness of their goals and physical limitations so they can train to reach the best physical condition they can achieve – at any age!

So, what is different about JITS for LIFE?

Our focus is fitness and mobility based upon the American Counsel on Exercise (ACE) guidelines. Coach Don is an ACE certified personal trainer!

Don has taken his many years of training and competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the solid fitness and mobility training techniques of Personal Training to create a new way to help aging or less athletic adults and children to move better, and if they want, to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

JITS for LIFE changes the focus of Jiu Jitsu training from combat and competition to fitness and self defense.  The pressure to submit and dominate your training partners is minimized, and only a part of the Jitsfit Complete program. 

Yes, you can train as easy or as hard as is right for you and still improve your mobility, fitness, and ability to protect your self from personal assault without the intensity found in many Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academies.
